Still far from mass tourism, Isan is nevertheless full of architectural wonders, with splendid temples as well as incredible mountain landscapes and rice fields. Isan is also a culture with its own dances, costumes, customs, and food (sticky rice and Som Tum — papaya salad — come from the region).
