Embark on a unique cultural journey deep into the heart of Akha village life, nestled in the jungle-covered hills of Northern Thailand. Surrounded by tea and coffee plantations, this off-the-beaten-path adventure promises authentic encounters far from the tourist crowds.
Day 1 – Cultural discovery and arrival at the village
- Pick-up from your hotel in Chiang Mai between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. by private car and English-speaking driver.
- Explore some of Chiang Rai’s most iconic sites:
- The White Temple (Wat Rong Khun)
- The Black House (Baan Dam)
- The Golden Triangle, where Thailand meets Laos and Myanmar
- (Optional: Mekong River boat trip)
- Lunch on your own en route.
- Continue the journey into the mountains toward an authentic Akha village.
- Traditional Thai dinner and overnight stay with your host family.
Day 2 – Jungle hike, waterfall, and tribal immersion
- Breakfast at the village.
- Depart between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. for a 2 to 3-hour jungle trek.
- Learn about local medicinal plants and herbs.
- Take a break and enjoy a refreshing dip at a hidden waterfall.
- Lunch cooked in bamboo, a local specialty.
- Hike for 1 to 2 more hours to reach a Lahu hill tribe village, where you’ll experience rural mountain life.
- Return to the Akha village.
- Dinner and second overnight stay with your host family.
Day 3 – Local life & return to Chiang Rai
- Breakfast at the village.
- Take part in a traditional Akha fishing activity, followed by cooking and sharing the catch with locals.
- Travel back to Chiang Rai in the early afternoon.
- Optional: board a VIP bus to Chiang Mai at 5:00 p.m. (arrival around 8:00 p.m.) for +400 THB/person.
